Bristol’s booming construction sector

Industry figures from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) show that the construction industry is booming in Bristol and the South West in general. Demand for more housing in the area and major large-scale projects including Hinckley Point and MetroBus are increasing the demand for construction skills. The J21 Enterprise Area in Weston-super-Mare and the planned development of garden towns and villages are also taken into account in the most recent report.

Great news for the area

Demand for buildings means more jobs across the sector. The CITB predict that 20,000 new jobs will be created between 2017 and 2021. These range from office based administrative, builders and installers to architects, surveyors, and legal professionals. Growth in the region over this three-year period is forecast at 3.1%, double the UK annual rate of 1.7%.

In Bristol itself, several new housing developments are underway including the conversion of the former Bristol Hospital into high quality contemporary accommodation. The complex contains high-end apartments in the converted Grade II Listed building and a brand new purpose-built complex on the same site.
